WAKISO, Uganda — Armed robbers raided a fuel station along Bombo Road in the early hours of Monday, assaulting workers and attempting to break into a safe containing cash.

The incident occurred at the Stabex Petrol Station Namakome Branch, located near Kigogwa after Matugga in Wakiso District.

According to information shared on social media by witnesses and local commentators, the attackers were armed with AK-47 rifles when they stormed the station during the early morning hours.

The assailants reportedly forced their way into the station’s safe room where daily fuel sales are usually stored before banking.

During the raid, workers at the station were beaten and robbed of their personal belongings, including mobile phones.

Despite the violent attack, the robbers were unable to break open the safe, which contained money from fuel sales, before fleeing the scene.

The attack reportedly happened even though the facility had armed security guards on duty at the time, raising questions among residents and observers about how the criminals managed to access the premises.

Police had not yet issued an official statement on the incident by press time, but security agencies are expected to review CCTV footage and witness accounts to identify the attackers.

The robbery has sparked concern among residents and businesses along Bombo Road, a busy highway linking Kampala to northern Uganda, where fuel stations and roadside businesses have previously been targeted by criminals.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
