The cross-border tourism partnership between Uganda and Kenya Coast has been recognised at the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day, Conference and Expo Awards held on 17 February 2026 at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.

The initiative, championed by the Uganda Consulate Mombasa, received the Cross-Border Coastal Tourism Resilience Award in recognition of its contribution to marine conservation, crisis response cooperation, and sustainable coastal destination management.

The awards ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Rebecca Miano, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife in Kenya.

Global Tourism Resilience Day provides an international platform to honour organisations and stakeholders demonstrating leadership in tourism resilience, conservation, sustainable development, safety preparedness, and post-crisis recovery. Kenya became the first African country to host the global event, marking a milestone for the continent’s tourism diplomacy.

The recognition was awarded for the collaborative work between Uganda’s consular mission in Mombasa and regional partners in promoting marine conservation, strengthening shared crisis-response mechanisms, and supporting cooperative coastal tourism management.

The Uganda–Kenya Coast collaboration, launched in 2022 by the Ugandan consular office in Mombasa, aims to enhance tourism exchange between the two countries. Since its inception, the initiative has improved the visibility of Uganda’s tourism attractions in the Kenyan market, contributing to a steady increase in Kenyan visitors travelling to Uganda.

Officials say the partnership continues to play a key role in promoting regional tourism integration and strengthening economic ties within the East African tourism ecosystem.
