KAMPALA — Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) has appointed Olive Birungi Lumonya as the new Chairperson of its Board of Directors and reconstituted its board with key industry leaders, in a move aimed at strengthening corporate governance and strategic oversight.

The appointment takes effect January 1, 2026, according to a company announcement shared by NBL Uganda.

Lumonya replaces the late Francis Onapito Ekomoloit, the former board chairman who passed away in September 2024.

NBL, Uganda’s leading brewing company and a subsidiary of global beverage giant AB InBev, said the board changes are intended to reinforce leadership as the company navigates Uganda’s increasingly competitive beverage market.

Lumonya brings over 25 years of leadership experience across the private sector, public service and the NGO space. She is also well known within Nile Breweries, having started her career at the company as its first Brand Manager, later serving as Media Manager.

She has previously served in several governance roles, including as Chairperson of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and FINCA Uganda, and currently holds a senior public sector leadership position, including serving as Deputy Director General at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.

Three New Board Members Appointed

Alongside Lumonya’s appointment, Nile Breweries has named three new members to its reconstituted board: Jose Moran, AB InBev Business Unit President for Southeast Africa, Nkanyiso Mncwabe, Nile Breweries Managing Director, who assumed office on January 1, 2026 and Emmanuel Njuki, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs at NBL.

The board also includes Eunice Muheirwe, the company’s Finance Director.

NBL said the reconstituted board brings together expertise in regional business strategy, executive management, and corporate governance to guide the company’s long-term growth agenda.

The appointment has been welcomed in business circles, drawing congratulatory messages on social media, including from institutions such as Makerere University Business School.

Nile Breweries remains one of Uganda’s biggest manufacturers and employers, with a strong market presence through its flagship beer brands and nationwide distribution network.
