Morocco, Mali, Egypt and South Africa have all confirmed their places in the knockout stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 following a dramatic final round of group matches played on Monday night.

The quartet advanced after decisive performances that underlined their tournament ambitions, with Morocco and Egypt topping their respective groups, while Mali and South Africa did just enough to progress.

Morocco seal Group A dominance

Hosts Morocco marched into the Round of 16 in style, defeating Zambia 3–0 to finish top of Group A with seven points. Ayoub El Kaabi was the star of the night, scoring twice in a dominant display that thrilled the home crowd in Rabat.

Morocco struck early and never looked back, controlling the tempo throughout and underlining their status as one of the tournament favourites as they advanced alongside Mali.

Mali edge through despite Comoros draw

Mali claimed the second Group A knockout berth after a goalless draw against Comoros in Casablanca. Reduced to ten men late in the game, the Eagles showed resilience to hold on for the point they needed.

With three draws from three matches, Mali finished second behind Morocco, while Comoros were eliminated after finishing third with two points.

Egypt top group after holding Angola

Egypt secured first place in their group after a hard-fought 0–0 draw with Angola in Agadir. Although Angola dominated large spells of the match and came closest to scoring, the Pharaohs’ defensive organisation proved decisive.

The result was enough to send Egypt through as group winners, reinforcing their reputation as one of Africa’s most consistent tournament sides.

South Africa survive Zimbabwe scare

South Africa completed the list of qualifiers after edging Zimbabwe 3–2 in a thrilling Group B clash. Despite a spirited fightback from the Warriors, Bafana Bafana held their nerve to collect the three points required to reach the knockout stage.

South Africa finished second in the group with six points, while Zimbabwe were eliminated after picking up just one point.
