Museveni unveils state-of-the-art Hoima City Stadium

Hoima City – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially unveiled the state-of-the-art Hoima City Stadium, a modern 20,000-seater sports facility, marking a major boost to Uganda’s preparations for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, the President commissioned the multi-purpose stadium located in Mparo Division, about three kilometres from Hoima City centre. The facility was completed in just over 12 months, five months ahead of schedule.

Constructed by Turkish firm Summa International Construction Company Inc., the stadium cost an estimated Shs484 billion and was fully financed by the Government of Uganda through the Petroleum Fund.

The Hoima City Stadium features a FIFA-standard hybrid grass pitch rated five stars, a 2,000-seater indoor arena, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, an eight-lane IAAF-certified athletics track, and additional courts for tennis and netball.

It also includes VVIP and VIP lounges, a modern media centre, medical facilities, a VAR room, and parking space for over 1,500 vehicles. High-capacity LED floodlights allow the hosting of night matches.

President Museveni said the stadium reflects the government’s commitment to investing in youth, sports development and regional transformation, particularly in the Bunyoro sub-region. He noted that such infrastructure will help nurture talent, create jobs and promote sports tourism.

The stadium is one of Uganda’s key venues designated for AFCON 2027, which the country will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania, positioning Hoima City as a new hub for international sports events.
