The Parliament of Uganda has once again dominated the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games, securing the EAC Games 2025 football crown for the third consecutive year.

The latest triumph underscores Uganda Parliament’s prowess on the regional sporting stage.

Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa praised the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, and his technical team for orchestrating a successful tournament. “Congratulations to the Clerk to Parliament and the entire technical team for pulling off the #EACGames2025. This victory reflects teamwork, discipline, and commitment both on and off the pitch,” Tayebwa said.

Uganda’s football team delivered a stellar performance, with Parliamentarian Hon. Denes Sekabira earning the Golden Boot and Hon. Linos Ngompek securing the Golden Glove for exceptional goalkeeping. Kenya’s Senator Okiya Amollo was recognised as the tournament’s Best Football Player.

In a lighter moment, the Deputy Speaker awarded the official EAC Games 2025 mascot, Byaruhanga, a ticket to Morocco to watch the TotalAFCON2025, drawing applause from delegates and fans alike.

Beyond football, Uganda excelled in several other disciplines. The women’s netball team topped the podium, finishing ahead of Kenya (silver) and Burundi (bronze), with Hon. Sarah Netalisire scoring an impressive 78 goals.

In darts, Uganda claimed gold in the women’s category, while Kenya won the men’s title; South Sudan secured bronze in the men’s competition. Hon. Laura Kanushu and Hon. Ronald Balimwezo were among Uganda’s standout performers.

In the tug of war, Kenya dominated both men’s and women’s events, leaving Uganda second overall and South Sudan in third place. Kenya also excelled in athletics, while Deputy Speaker Tayebwa finished runner-up in the men’s golf competition. Kenya’s Hon. David Ole Sankok received a Special Award for participating in multiple track events, including the men’s walking race, 800 metres, and 1,500 metres.

Social media buzzed with Uganda Parliament’s victory. The official Twitter accounts celebrated the achievement: “We made it happen, Uganda is our Country. We are the champions of the #EACGames2025 football, for the third consecutive year. We woke up CHAMPIONS of the 15th Edition of the East African Inter-Parliamentary Football Games hosted in Uganda. Three Football Trophies in three years 🏆🏆🏆.”

At the closing ceremony, Hon. Hon Asumani Basalirwa received the Golden Shoe on behalf of Hon. Denes Sekabira, who scored all three goals against Kenya after coming on as a substitute in the second half.

Hon. Ngompek Linos, who conceded only two goals throughout the tournament, was awarded the Golden Glove, also received by Hon. Basalirwa on his behalf.

The games highlighted not only Uganda’s football dominance but also the spirit of camaraderie, healthy competition, and regional unity among East African legislators.
