NTUNGAMO — August 14, 2026: The Parliamentary Committee on Presidential Affairs has pledged support for the continued development and commercialisation of the Africa Coffee Park in Rwashamaire, Ntungamo District.
The committee conducted an oversight visit to the facility on Friday as part of efforts to assess progress at the coffee value addition and agro-processing project.
The delegation was led by Kanyum County MP Simon Peter Opolot Okwalinga and included MPs Ofwon Opondo, Zahara Luyirika, Harriet Nakwedde, Denis Oneka-Lit Amere, Rose Mutonyi, James Mamawi, Babirye Sarah, Josephine Pedun and Isaac Malinga.
The legislators were taken around the facility by Inspire Africa Group Chief Executive Officer Dr. Nelson Tugume and Dr. Joshua Isiko from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The committee inspected the coffee value addition plant, fertiliser plant and the company’s coffee plantation at Lake Nyabihoko.
During the visit, Tugume asked Parliament to support the company in the 2026/27 financial year to enable it to complete the installation of dedicated electricity and water lines and accelerate the commercialisation of products developed at the park.
The dedicated infrastructure is expected to strengthen production and processing capacity at the facility while reducing constraints associated with utilities.
The MPs expressed satisfaction with the progress made at the Africa Coffee Park and unanimously agreed to support the company’s request for additional government support during the 2026/27 financial year.
The visit comes as Uganda continues to promote coffee value addition and local processing as part of efforts to increase earnings from the country’s coffee sector rather than relying primarily on exports of raw coffee.
The Africa Coffee Park is being developed as an integrated coffee value-addition facility, bringing together coffee production, processing and other related agro-industrial activities.
The committee’s support could provide a boost to efforts to move the project towards full commercialisation and strengthen its contribution to Uganda’s coffee value chain.
