Ugandan rapper Da Agent is enjoying the attention surrounding his latest single “Daddy” while also celebrating a new addition to his garage—a 2017 Mazda CX-5 reportedly worth about Shs85 million.
The Tokopa Force artiste, whose real name is Ivan Wabwire, recently unveiled the red SUV, drawing both praise and criticism from his fans and online followers.
The vehicle comes shortly after the release of “Daddy,” also referred to as “Daddy Daddy,” a track that has been gaining traction on radio and social media.
Unlike some of his earlier work, the new song leans more towards melody and a commercial sound, giving the rapper an opportunity to reach beyond his traditional Lugaflow audience.
Da Agent says the Mazda was a personal choice. According to the artiste, he was attracted to the vehicle because of its appearance and wanted to acquire it while it was still in excellent condition.
He has also pointed to his continued bookings as a sign that his music remains in demand.
But the new ride has not escaped controversy.
Some commentators questioned the decision to publicly celebrate a Mazda, suggesting that a rapper of Da Agent’s standing should be driving a more expensive vehicle.
The criticism prompted a response from the artiste, who challenged those questioning his purchase to reveal their own cars.
“Those ones talking should first show us what car they drive. I flex a Mazda but they do not know what else I have,” he said.
Da Agent’s response reflects a familiar debate in Uganda’s entertainment industry, where artistes are often judged by the cars, homes and other possessions they display publicly.
The rapper, however, appears to view the Mazda differently—as a personal achievement rather than a competition.
He has built his career around rapid-fire Lugaflow, earning recognition through songs such as “Akadodi” and “Nturika.” More recent releases, including “Tewepima Nange,” have helped keep his name active in the local music scene.
“Daddy” signals another phase in that journey, with Da Agent experimenting with a smoother sound while retaining the energy that has become his trademark.
A 2017 Mazda CX-5 can command a wide range of prices on Uganda’s used-car market depending on mileage, specifications, condition and import history. A well-maintained example can reach the reported Shs85 million range.
For Da Agent, the reaction appears unlikely to overshadow the achievement.
As his latest song continues to find listeners, the rapper is also enjoying the fruits of a career he says remains busy with bookings—and he wants his latest purchase celebrated on his own terms.
