Maracha, Uganda — Six members of one family, including four children, have died after lightning struck their home in Nyanza Cell, Oleba Town Council, Maracha District.

The incident happened at about 5:00 a.m. on Saturday during a heavy rainstorm, according to Oleba Town Council LCIII Chairperson Robert Angupi.

Angupi said the lightning strike hit the family’s residence and caused a fire that destroyed the houses. The victims included the family head, his wife, and their four children.

Residents and local leaders were left shocked by the tragedy, which wiped out an entire household. The bodies of the deceased were still at the scene as authorities carried out initial procedures.

The identities of the victims had not yet been officially released by authorities.

The incident adds to concerns over lightning-related deaths in Uganda, especially during the rainy season when thunderstorms affect many parts of the country. Local leaders have continued to encourage communities to take precautions during severe weather conditions.
