ENTEBBE — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended a group of Spanish volunteers for their continued support to vulnerable communities in Gomba District, praising their commitment to improving education, access to clean water and community welfare over the past four years.
The President hosted the volunteers at State House Entebbe on Thursday following the completion of their fourth annual volunteer mission in Uganda.
In a statement shared on his official X account, President Museveni referred to the group as his “Spanish Bazzukulu” and thanked them for their spirit of service.
“I met my Spanish Bazzukulu this evening at State House Entebbe after the completion of their fourth annual volunteer mission in Uganda. For the last four years, they have supported vulnerable communities in Gomba District by constructing school facilities, improving access to clean water and undertaking other outreach activities,” the President said.
He said the volunteers’ work had made a positive contribution to communities in the district through infrastructure development and humanitarian initiatives.
During the meeting, Museveni also shared Uganda’s economic transformation journey, describing the country’s transition from a subsistence economy to a money economy.
“I thanked them for their spirit of service, shared with them Uganda’s journey from subsistence to the money economy, and encouraged them to live disciplined, purposeful lives,” he said.
According to the President, Uganda’s development has been driven by efforts to move households from producing mainly for their own consumption to participating in commercial economic activities that generate income.
The meeting also highlighted growing people-to-people relations between Uganda and Spain, with the volunteers returning annually to support community projects in Gomba District.
Their work has included the construction of school facilities, initiatives to improve access to safe and clean water, and outreach programmes targeting vulnerable families.
The President encouraged the volunteers to continue serving their communities and uphold values of discipline and purpose as they pursue their personal and professional aspirations.
The volunteers have been undertaking annual missions in Uganda since 2023, working with local communities and partners to implement projects aimed at improving living conditions in Gomba District.
Their latest mission concluded this week before the delegation met President Museveni at State House Entebbe.
