KAMPALA, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday chaired the first Cabinet meeting of his new administration, directing ministers to prioritize disciplined implementation of government programmes, accountability and efficient service delivery as the government embarks on its new five-year term.
The meeting at State House followed a 10-day Cabinet Induction Retreat held at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) Kyankwanzi, where ministers were oriented on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s priorities, leadership principles and governance agenda. In a statement shared after the meeting, President Museveni said the new Cabinet had been tasked with ensuring that government commitments are translated into tangible results for Ugandans.
“Today, I chaired the first Cabinet meeting of the new administration following the successful Cabinet Induction Retreat at Kyankwanzi. I urged the ministers to remain focused on disciplined implementation, accountability and efficient service delivery as we work to fulfil the NRM’s commitment of securing Uganda’s socio-economic transformation over the next five years,” the President said.
The Cabinet meeting officially marked the beginning of government business for the new administration after ministers completed the intensive orientation programme designed to align them with the ruling NRM’s development agenda.
During the Kyankwanzi retreat, ministers received guidance on policy implementation, public service ethics, teamwork, monitoring government programmes and delivering services efficiently to citizens. The programme emphasized accountability, patriotism and value for money in public expenditure.
Several ministers later shared photographs from the Cabinet meeting on social media, expressing optimism about the new administration’s work programme.
Among those who posted messages of commitment were Minister of State for Minerals Phiona Nyamutoro and Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Frank Tumwebaze, who pledged to work towards delivering the government’s development agenda.
Supporters of the ruling party welcomed the launch of the new Cabinet under the slogan #KisanjaHakunaKulala, a Swahili phrase meaning “this term, there is no sleeping on the job,” reflecting expectations of improved performance and accelerated implementation of government programmes.
The first Cabinet meeting comes as the government begins implementing its priorities for the new term, including wealth creation, industrialisation, infrastructure development, improved service delivery, job creation and continued socio-economic transformation in line with the NRM manifesto.
