Uganda’s Keneth Kiprop produced a commanding performance to win the men’s 5,000 metres race at the FBK Games, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, as Ugandan athletes continued to make their mark on the international athletics circuit.

Kiprop stormed to victory in the race on Sunday, securing the gold medal ahead of a strong field of international competitors. Fellow Ugandan Dolphin Chelimo also impressed, finishing third to claim bronze and complete a successful outing for Team Uganda.

The victory adds another significant achievement to Kiprop’s growing career and further cements his reputation as one of Uganda’s emerging distance-running talents.

Athletics Uganda celebrated the result on social media, describing it as a proud moment for the country.

“Glory for Keneth Kiprop. Uganda’s Keneth Kiprop won the men’s 5,000m race at the FBK Continental Tour meet. His compatriot Dolphin Chelimo finished third. Congrats,” Uganda Athletics posted.

The FBK Games is one of Europe’s most respected athletics meetings and regularly attracts elite athletes from around the world. The competition forms part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, which serves as an important platform for athletes seeking international rankings, qualification standards and preparation for major championships.

Kiprop’s triumph comes amid a strong period for Ugandan distance running, with the country continuing to produce world-class athletes across track, road-running and cross-country events.

The performance is likely to boost the athlete’s confidence as he targets bigger competitions later in the season, while Chelimo’s podium finish highlights Uganda’s growing depth in the men’s 5,000m.

Uganda has built a formidable reputation in global distance running through athletes such as Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo and Stephen Kissa, and the latest success by Kiprop and Chelimo suggests the next generation is ready to carry that legacy forward.

As the Ugandan flag flew high at the continental meet, Kiprop’s victory served as another reminder of the country’s enduring strength in long-distance athletics and its growing influence on the world stage.
