KIRA, Wakiso District — Police in Kira Division have arrested a suspected serial robber as part of an intensified security operation targeting criminal gangs linked to a recent wave of robberies and street muggings within Kira Municipality.

The suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by security agencies following numerous complaints from residents and business operators who have reported an increase in violent theft incidents across several neighborhoods.

According to police, the suspect is being investigated for alleged involvement in a series of coordinated attacks targeting pedestrians, boda boda riders and other members of the public, particularly during late evening and night hours.

Authorities have withheld the suspect’s identity pending the completion of ongoing investigations. However, police confirmed that several items believed to be connected to criminal activities were recovered during the operation and are now being examined as evidence.

The arrest comes amid growing concern among residents over urban crime, which has prompted security agencies to intensify patrols, surveillance operations and intelligence gathering across Kira and neighboring areas.

Police officials say the latest operation forms part of a broader crackdown aimed at dismantling criminal networks suspected of terrorizing communities and disrupting business activities within the municipality.

Investigators believe the arrested suspect may be connected to a larger criminal group and have launched efforts to identify, track and apprehend other individuals believed to be part of the network.

Security authorities have reassured residents that operations will continue until all suspects linked to the reported robberies are brought to justice.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” a police source involved in the operation said. “Our teams are actively pursuing leads to arrest additional suspects and prevent further criminal incidents.”

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant, strengthen community security measures and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the police and other security agencies.

The latest arrest is expected to provide investigators with valuable leads as authorities work to curb crime and restore public confidence in security within Kira Municipality.
