The body of Magambo Timothy, the son of Tom Magambo, has been returned to Uganda following his tragic drowning in the United States last week.

Family spokesperson Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi confirmed on Tuesday that Timothy’s remains arrived in Uganda at around 2:00 a.m., paving the way for funeral arrangements ahead of his burial in Masindi District.

According to the burial programme released by the family, a requiem Mass will be held at Mbuya Catholic Parish before the body is transported to Kisarabwire Village in Masindi Municipality.

Relatives, friends, and mourners are expected to gather at the family home in Kisarabwire for an overnight vigil ahead of the burial.

Family members said Timothy will be laid to rest on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Kisarabwire, located about two kilometres from Masindi Municipality.

The death of Timothy has drawn widespread sympathy from members of the security fraternity, government officials, religious leaders, and members of the public, many of whom have sent messages of condolence to the Magambo family.

The tragedy has also sparked renewed discussion about the dangers associated with water-related recreational activities and accidents involving Ugandans living abroad.

Although details surrounding the drowning incident have remained limited, the sudden loss has left family members and friends grieving a young life lost far from home.

The return of Timothy’s body to Uganda now gives relatives and loved ones an opportunity to pay their final respects.

Tom Magambo, one of Uganda’s most prominent senior police officers, currently heads the Criminal Investigations Directorate and has previously served in several high-profile investigative and anti-corruption roles.

Throughout his public service career, he has overseen investigations into some of Uganda’s most significant criminal cases.

As preparations for the burial continue, messages of comfort and solidarity have continued pouring in for the bereaved family.

In a statement, Balaam Ateenyi thanked all those who have stood with the family during the difficult period and requested continued prayers for strength and healing.

The family also drew comfort from Psalm 34:18, which states: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
