Kampala — Two senior officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces have been arrested and driven under tight military guard to Kasenyi detention facility, in a dramatic development linked to an ongoing internal crackdown.

According to reports by New Vision, the arrests of Major General Don William Nabasa and Brigadier General Johnson Namanya Abaho were carried out on March 27, 2026, on orders of the Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The two generals are currently being held at the Kasenyi military detention facility, a high-security installation often used for sensitive military cases.

Security sources indicate that the arrests are part of a wider campaign within the army targeting alleged corruption and misconduct among senior officers.

In the same sweeping changes, the CDF also dropped Colonel Abdul Rugumayo from his position as Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS), placing him under house arrest, and replaced him with Brigadier General Oscar Munanura.

While the military has officially confirmed leadership changes within the intelligence wing, it has not publicly detailed the specific reasons behind the arrests of Nabasa and Namanya.

The developments underscore growing internal restructuring within the UPDF’s intelligence and command structures, following recent political and security tensions in the country after the 2026 general elections.

Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement on possible charges against the detained officers, and investigations are ongoing.
