Uganda Airlines has named Rita Nasirumbi as its first female captain, marking a milestone for the national carrier and women’s representation in commercial aviation.
Nasirumbi’s appointment places her among the women who have advanced into senior flying roles in an industry traditionally dominated by men.
Her elevation to captain represents a progression in her aviation career and expands the visibility of women in the cockpit of Uganda’s national airline.
The appointment also comes as women continue to pursue careers in aviation, including as pilots, in a sector that requires specialised training, experience and certification.
Uganda Airlines, the country’s national carrier, operates regional and international passenger services.
Further details about Nasirumbi’s career, the aircraft she will command and the circumstances of her appointment were not immediately available.
