WAKISO — September 8, 2026: Two people have been killed and nine others injured in a road crash involving four vehicles at Nkoowe along the Kampala–Hoima Road in Wakiso District.
The crash occurred at about 1:33pm on Tuesday, according to Traffic Police spokesperson SP Michael Kananura.
The vehicles involved were a Sino truck, registration UBK 495F; Toyota Hiace taxi UAT 272J; Subaru Forester UBB 353D; and Toyota Wish UBE 918T.
Kananura said preliminary investigations indicate that the Sino truck was carrying stones from Kakiri towards Kampala when its driver lost control at Nkoowe and rammed into the three other vehicles.
The commuter taxi was reportedly stationary at the time, having stopped to load passengers.
The impact killed the driver and conductor of the commuter taxi on the spot, according to Police.
Nine passengers travelling in the taxi were injured. The casualties comprised five adults and four juveniles.
Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
The incident adds to a series of road crashes being recorded across the country. Uganda Police has continued to warn motorists against dangerous driving and other traffic violations, with recent enforcement operations targeting careless driving, dangerous loading and vehicles in dangerous mechanical condition.
Nkoowe Police Post, which falls under the Wakiso policing area, is listed by the Uganda Police Force among its operational stations in the district.
The latest crash comes a day after another fatal accident in Bushenyi District in which three people were killed and 10 injured. Police attributed that crash to excessive speed.
Police have not yet released the identities of the two people killed in the Nkoowe crash or provided further details on the condition of the injured passengers.
