WASHINGTON — Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has apologised to its Middle East neighbours and effectively “surrendered,” while warning that the country could face significant military action if tensions escalate.
In a statement posted on his social media platform on Saturday, Trump said Tehran had backed down following what he described as strong pressure from the United States and its regional allies.
“Iran has apologised to its neighbours and surrendered,” Trump said, adding that the country would be “hit very hard” if it attempted further attacks.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following reports of missile exchanges and escalating military threats involving Iran and Western allies.
Trump indicated that Washington was prepared to intensify military measures if Tehran failed to cooperate with efforts aimed at stabilizing the region.
Meanwhile, Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed that Iran had communicated with neighbouring Gulf countries following the recent tensions.
Iranian officials said the messages were intended to reassure neighbouring states that Iran would not target them unless attacks against Iran were launched from their territory.
However, authorities in Tehran rejected claims that the country had surrendered, maintaining that Iran would continue to defend its sovereignty and national interests.
Security analysts say the situation remains volatile, warning that the crisis could escalate further if threats from both sides continue.
Diplomatic efforts are ongoing to ease tensions, though observers say the coming hours may be critical in determining whether the standoff deepens or shifts toward negotiations.
