KAMPALA — A 35-year-old social media content creator has been remanded to prison after appearing before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court over allegations that he circulated false information on TikTok claiming that he had stolen Shs7 billion from Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Abdallah Bogere, who is known on social media as “True Leader”, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa on Friday and denied a charge of sending false distress signals contrary to Section 82 of the Uganda Communications Act, Cap 103.
Prosecution alleges that between August 3 and 4, 2026, in Kampala and Kabale districts, Bogere and others still at large knowingly transmitted false information through TikTok accounts identified as @trueleader123 and @Planned Mulekwa.
According to the prosecution, videos posted through the accounts contained claims that Bogere and his alleged accomplices had stolen Shs7 billion from Namyalo.
Bogere pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The allegations have not been tested in court, and Bogere remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Chief State Attorney Joan Keko told court that police investigations were nearing completion and asked for a short adjournment to allow the prosecution to provide an update on the case.
Bogere’s lawyer, Lydia Nakimpi, applied for bail and presented three proposed sureties.
They included Aisha Bahati, a shoe trader and Kampala Central Division Woman Councillor described in court as Bogere’s in-law; Zebia Juuko Lwantale, a businesswoman and landlord identified as his aunt; and his wife, Farihah Namayanja.
Bogere told court that he is a businessman and social media content creator and currently works with Senior Presidential Advisor Peace Mugamba.
The prosecution opposed an immediate hearing of the bail application, saying it needed time to verify the identities and particulars of the proposed sureties.
Magistrate Kidasa subsequently remanded Bogere to prison and adjourned the case to August 17, 2026.
The prosecution is expected to respond to the bail application at the next hearing after completing verification of the proposed sureties.
The case is separate from a recent police investigation into a suspected syndicate accused of impersonating Namyalo on TikTok in an alleged scheme to defraud members of the public.
The court proceedings concern the alleged transmission of false information, while the separate impersonation case involves allegations of fraud.
