KAMPALA — Veteran Ugandan musician and entertainer Master Parrot, born David Sifayo, has died following a road accident along the Northern Bypass in Kampala on Monday evening.
According to eyewitness accounts, Master Parrot was struck by a speeding motorcycle while attempting to cross the busy highway near the Masanafu area. He reportedly died at the scene.
Police later transported his body to Mulago National Referral Hospital as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident commenced.
News of his death spread rapidly across social media, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans, musicians, politicians, and media personalities who remembered him as one of Uganda’s most recognizable entertainers of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Among those who paid tribute was opposition leader and National Unity Platform president, Bobi Wine, who expressed shock at the sudden loss.
“Just got the terrible news that we’ve lost our brother @MasterParrot. Old funny conversations, careless hearty laughters are the painful memories you live with us my friend. Until we meet again,” Bobi Wine posted on X.
At his home in Wabiduku, Kiwatule, family members, friends, and supporters gathered in disbelief as news of his passing emerged.
Master Parrot rose to fame with hit songs such as Muliro and Kikompola, which earned him a loyal fan base and established him as a household name in Uganda’s music industry.
His energetic performances and unique style made him a popular figure on the local entertainment scene.
In recent years, however, the singer had largely retreated from public life as he reportedly battled personal challenges.
Earlier this year, videos circulating on social media showing him in apparent distress sparked concern among fans and fellow musicians, many of whom called for support and assistance.
His death has renewed concerns about road safety on Kampala’s major highways and bypasses, which continue to record a significant number of fatal accidents.
By Monday night, tributes continued pouring in from across the country as Ugandans remembered the musician’s contribution to the entertainment industry and the joy his music brought to audiences over the years.
Funeral arrangements had not yet been announced by the family at the time of publication.
