KAMPALA — Police have recovered all six laptops stolen from offices of the Bank of Uganda following a break-in at the central bank’s Kampala Road premises earlier this month, in what investigators describe as a significant breakthrough in the case.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the theft occurred on May 3, 2026, after unknown individuals reportedly broke into the offices during the night and made away with six official laptops.
Security agencies launched investigations immediately after the incident was reported, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of two laptops during the initial operations.
Police say continued intelligence-led follow-up operations later resulted in the arrest of two more suspects and the recovery of the remaining four laptops, bringing the total number of recovered devices to six.
The suspects in custody have been identified as Kule Boaz Micheal, Kabuya Ramathan alias Rama, Lubangakene Isaac Izoo, and Oedo Jorem Jude.
Authorities confirmed that all the recovered laptops are being held as court exhibits as preparations begin for prosecution.
The four suspects are expected to appear before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on May 20, 2026, where they are likely to face charges including office breaking, theft, receiving stolen property, and retaining suspected stolen property.
Police added that investigations are still ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to a larger criminal network believed to be involved in similar office and commercial break-ins across Kampala.
The incident had raised concern within security and financial circles due to the sensitive nature of equipment stolen from the country’s central bank, prompting heightened investigative efforts by law enforcement agencies.
