The Government of Uganda has announced a special public visual event scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2026, as preparations intensify for the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In a public notice issued through the Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC), authorities said residents within the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area should look to the skies at exactly 8:00pm for a unique aerial communication display.

“On Monday, 11th May at exactly 8:00pm, all those within the Kampala Metropolitan area are encouraged to keep their eyes on the skies and pay close attention to a special visual communication that will unfold above the city,” the statement read. “A unique and memorable moment awaits.”

Officials said the display will take the form of a drone show-style aerial presentation lasting approximately 14 minutes, described as a “special thank-you message” from President Museveni following his election victory.

The announcement comes as Uganda’s security forces conduct final rehearsals ahead of the presidential swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Earlier in the day, the Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, together with the Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba and the Commissioner General of Prisons, inspected final drills at Kololo.

Military parachute units were seen descending over Kololo Independence Grounds as rehearsals involving the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Uganda Police Force, and Uganda Prisons Service continued.

Security agencies have assured the public of heightened readiness for the ceremony, which is expected to attract Heads of State, regional leaders, diplomats, and other invited guests.

“The Uganda Police Force has finalized comprehensive security and traffic management plans to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the Presidential Swearing-in Ceremony,” police said in a statement.

Authorities added that tactical response teams, rapid intervention units, and static security personnel will be deployed across Kampala and key routes leading to Kololo.

Access to the venue will be strictly controlled, with all attendees undergoing security screening before being guided to designated seating areas.

“We have conducted extensive threat assessments and are operating at a heightened state of readiness,” police noted.

Members of the public have been urged to comply with traffic guidelines and security instructions as the capital prepares for what officials have described as a major national event combining ceremony, security display, and aerial spectacle.
