KAMPALA — A public dispute between former Miss Rwanda Jolly Mutesi and Ugandan music star Bebe Cool appears to have been resolved after an intervention by Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The development comes just a day after Mutesi threatened legal action against the veteran musician over social media posts in which he accused her of involvement in an alleged fraud scheme. The accusations sparked widespread debate online and prompted Mutesi’s lawyers to issue a formal legal notice demanding a retraction and apology.
On Thursday morning, Bebe Cool announced that he had agreed to withdraw the matter from social media following a telephone conversation with Muhoozi.
“Good morning, all. This morning I received a call from my big brother, @mkainerugaba, regarding the issue with Jolly. As my elder and leader, he advised me to drop it, delete the tweets, and resolve it amicably off social media since we are both family to him and there is no need for a public spat. I appreciate his guidance and agree,” Bebe Cool posted on X.
Shortly afterwards, Muhoozi confirmed that the disagreement had been settled, writing: “My brother @BebeCoolUG has apologised to Miss @JollyMutesi. Jolly has accepted the apology. All is well. So everybody relax.”
Mutesi subsequently acknowledged the apology, posting: “Apology accepted sir. Thank you for guidance.”
The dispute began earlier this week when Bebe Cool publicly accused Mutesi of allegedly conning him in a transaction linked to Rwanda and English football club Arsenal. The musician claimed he had been defrauded and suggested he would reveal further details, allegations that Mutesi strongly denied through her legal representatives.
In a legal notice issued on June 17, Mutesi’s lawyers described the allegations as defamatory and demanded that Bebe Cool retract the statements, issue an unqualified apology, and disclose the sources of the information on which he had relied.
The lawyers further argued that the telephone number Bebe Cool associated with Mutesi belonged to fraudsters who had previously impersonated her online, noting that public warnings about the scam had already been issued.
With Mutesi now accepting the apology and Bebe Cool deleting the contested posts, the legal showdown that had appeared imminent seems to have been averted.
The reconciliation has drawn attention on social media, with many users praising the decision to resolve the matter amicably rather than through a prolonged public dispute and court battle.
Neither Mutesi nor Bebe Cool has indicated whether any further legal action will be pursued following Thursday’s reconciliation.
