Political leaders, family members and friends have poured out tributes following the death of Maj Isaac Newton Baguma Muhanga Amooti, a respected elder and patriarch of the Muhanga family, who passed away on Friday morning at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

The death was confirmed by family members, including Hon. Margaret Muhanga, the Minister of State for Primary Health Care, and renowned journalist Andrew Mwenda, who described the late Maj Muhanga as a central pillar of the family.

“It is with profound sadness that I inform our friends, relatives and in-laws of the death of our brother, Maj. Isaac Newton Kandole Baguma Amooti Muhanga,” Mwenda said. “He was the anchor of our family, the captain of our ship, and the undisputed leader of the Muhanga clan.”

State Minister Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi extended condolences to the family, describing the loss as deeply painful.

“My heartfelt condolences to my best friend, big sister and colleague Minister Hon. Margaret Muhanga, CLF Gen. Apollo Muhanga, and my big brother, old man of the clan, Andrew Mwenda, on the painful loss of your dear brother and father,” Balaam said. “May God grant you strength, comfort and peace during this difficult time.”

In an emotional message, Hon. Margaret Muhanga announced the passing of her brother and family head, describing him as a father figure whose loss has left the family in deep sorrow.

“With a heavy heart and so much sorrow, I announce the death of my brother and our family’s dad, Maj. Isaac Newton Baguma Muhanga Amooti,” she said. “May God receive him in glory.”

The family has announced preliminary funeral arrangements, with Andrew Mwenda stating that an informal vigil will be held on Saturday, followed by a formal vigil on Sunday, both at Plot 5, Kulubya Close in Bugolobi, near Dolphin Suites.

A church service is scheduled for Monday at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Church, while the burial will take place on Tuesday at 12:00 noon in Kanyandahi.

Maj. Muhanga is remembered as a unifying figure within the Muhanga clan and a man whose leadership and guidance shaped generations of his family. “May his soul rest in perfect peace,” Balaam said.
