The Territorial Police at Kira Road Division are investigating the sudden death of Dr Tom Patrick Mugizi, a 64-year-old lecturer at Victoria University and Makerere University Business School (MUBS), and a resident of Kisota Zone, Kikaaya Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.

According to a statement from the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident was reported on January 3, 2026, by the deceased’s sister, Nsasiirwe Annet Runtemu, after she was unable to reach Dr Mugizi by phone from December 31, 2025.

A neighbour was asked to check on him and discovered the lecturer lying deceased in his bed in a decomposing state. Police noted that the house was open, but no property appeared to be missing.

Officers visited the scene, documented the situation, recorded statements from relevant witnesses, and conveyed the body to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination. Preliminary observations indicate that Dr Mugizi had a history of chronic illnesses.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing, police said.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed that the matter is under active inquiry.
