Juba — The President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, has reaffirmed his commitment to holding the country’s general elections in December 2026 during a meeting with the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, Professor Abednego Akok Kacoul.

The meeting, held on Thursday in Juba, focused on reviewing ongoing preparations for the elections. Professor Akok reported that the Commission is on track to announce the official election date in June and outlined key upcoming activities, including a nationwide rollout of civic education and voter registration campaigns. These initiatives will be conducted simultaneously to ensure readiness, as the elections are now only eight months away.

The Chairperson confirmed that the elections will cover 102 geographical constituencies across South Sudan’s 10 states and 3 administrative areas. Discussions also addressed operational matters such as constituency demarcation and logistical arrangements necessary to guarantee a smooth electoral process.

President Kiir stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in election preparations and assured that the government will provide the required resources and logistical support to facilitate a credible and orderly process.

Professor Akok thanked the President for his engagement, describing it as an important source of encouragement for the Commission as it works toward delivering transparent and well-organized elections for the people of South Sudan.
