The tourism sector in Uganda has received a significant boost following the national rollout of the “Seven Wonders of Uganda” initiative, alongside the launch of new sightseeing buses aimed at promoting domestic and international travel.

The initiative was officially launched by the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), with Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa flagging off the programme in Kampala.

The “Seven Wonders of Uganda” platform, a citizen-driven tourism campaign led by Association of Tourism Enterprises in Uganda in partnership with Brand Ambassadors 256, is designed to highlight key cultural, historical, and natural attractions across the country.

As part of the rollout, Juliana Kagwa also launched the newly introduced Kampala Hop On, Hop Off sightseeing buses, which will tour selected landmarks and hidden attractions within the capital.

“These buses will showcase the Seven Wonders of Kampala and give both residents and visitors a new way to experience the city,” UTB said in a statement shared on social media.

The initiative is expected to boost urban tourism by offering curated experiences that connect visitors to Kampala’s cultural, historical, and recreational sites.

According to the Government of Uganda, the tourism sector has been allocated UGX 48.6 billion to support promotional activities, including the “Explore Uganda” campaign aimed at strengthening the country’s global tourism brand.

Officials say the funding will be used to improve marketing, support destination branding, and enhance visibility of Uganda’s tourism offerings in key international markets.

The “Seven Wonders” campaign is part of a broader strategy to position Uganda as a leading tourism destination in Africa by leveraging both citizen participation and innovative travel experiences.

Tourism stakeholders say the introduction of the Kampala sightseeing buses is expected to boost local tourism, create awareness of lesser-known attractions, and increase visitor engagement within the capital.

With renewed investment and coordinated branding efforts, authorities hope the initiative will drive higher tourist arrivals and strengthen Uganda’s tourism economy in the coming years.
