Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki has announced the postponement of the Kampala City Festival to next year following public health concerns raised by the Ministry of Health over the Ebola outbreak.
Buzeki announced this while appearing before Parliament’s Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), where she was responding to queries arising from the Auditor General’s report.
She said the decision to postpone the festival followed concerns about the potential public health risks associated with holding a large public gathering amid the Ebola outbreak.
The Kampala City Festival is one of the city’s major public events, bringing together residents, businesses, performers and other participants for activities celebrating Kampala’s culture, entertainment and economic life.
The postponement means the festival will not take place as initially planned this year, with organisers expected to consider holding it in 2027.
The Ministry of Health has raised concerns over the Ebola outbreak, prompting attention to public gatherings and the need for measures to protect public health.
Buzeki made the announcement during her appearance before COSASE, whose scrutiny includes examining the performance and accountability of government agencies and statutory authorities.
Further details about the planned 2027 festival, including its dates and arrangements, were not immediately available.
