WAKISO DISTRICT, Uganda — Police in Kakiri Division are investigating a case of kidnapping and murder following the killing of a 25-year-old tricycle operator.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident occurred in the early hours of May 4, 2026.

The victim, identified as Ssewakilyanga Tony, a resident of Kikubampanga Cell in Kakiri Town Council, was allegedly abducted at around 12:30 a.m. by a group led by Magala Ibrahim and other suspects still at large.

Police say the assailants took the victim to his residence in search of money. When they failed to find any, they reportedly forced him to call his father to demand ransom. However, the family was unable to raise the required amount.

The suspects later moved the victim to Kikajjo Cell, where he was killed and his body dumped.

Local leaders arrested one suspect, Magala Ibrahim, 27, who was found in possession of a knife believed to have been used in the crime, as well as the victim’s mobile phone.

Police, supported by a K9 unit, responded to the scene and successfully tracked the body to Kikajjo. The area was documented and exhibits recovered for forensic analysis.

The body was later transported to Mulago National Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police say efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing and urged the public to report any suspicious activity.
