His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Kabaka of Buganda, took time off from his official duties to visit Murchison Falls National Park, highlighting the importance of domestic tourism and nature conservation.
During the visit, the Kabaka explored the park’s scenic landscapes and diverse wildlife, demonstrating that Uganda’s national parks are perfect for relaxation, reflection, and recreation throughout the year—not just during festive seasons.
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) shared highlights of the visit on social media, urging citizens to follow the Kabaka’s example in supporting domestic tourism and preserving the country’s natural heritage.
“If our cultural leader can make time for nature, so can we,” UWA noted, emphasising the role of national parks in connecting Ugandans to nature while promoting conservation efforts.
The Kabaka’s weekend itinerary also included a tour of the 600 MW Karuma Hydroelectric Power Plant in Kiryandongo District. Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) guided His Majesty through the facility, showcasing the engineering precision, operational scale, and sustainability measures behind one of Uganda’s key national assets.
In his remarks, the Kabaka praised UEGCL staff for their dedication to safeguarding the plant and contributing to Uganda’s development through reliable and sustainable electricity generation.
Kabaka Mutebi’s visits to Murchison Falls and Karuma HPP serve as a reminder of the importance of both nature and infrastructure in shaping Uganda’s future, while inspiring citizens to explore their country and support its development.
