President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda, according to an announcement made by State House Uganda.

State House said the appointment of Justice Kawumi has already been forwarded to Parliament for approval, in line with constitutional requirements.

“President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi as the new Deputy Chief Justice,” State House Uganda posted on its official X account.

President Museveni also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

The appointments come at a time when the Judiciary continues to implement reforms aimed at improving access to justice, reducing case backlog, and strengthening the administration of courts across the country.

Justice Kawumi is expected to deputize the Chief Justice and play a key role in supervising judicial officers and supporting the administration of the Judiciary once approved by Parliament.

The position of Deputy Chief Justice is one of the highest offices in Uganda’s Judiciary and is responsible for overseeing the Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court.

Agnes Alum, who has served within the Judiciary in various capacities, will now take on the role of Chief Registrar, a position that oversees the administration and operational management of courts.

Parliament is expected to vet and consider Justice Kawumi’s appointment before he formally assumes office.
