KAMPALA — Over the last decade, Kin Kariisa has steadily built a reputation as one of Africa’s most influential young business leaders, transforming Uganda’s media industry while inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs across the continent.
As the Group Chief Executive Officer of Next Media, Kariisa has overseen the growth of one of East Africa’s largest multimedia companies, expanding from a single television brand into a diversified media group with more than 22 platforms operating across television, radio, digital media, sports broadcasting, and content production.
The company’s brands include NBS TV, Sanyuka TV, Salam TV, NBS Sport, Next Radio, and Nile Post, among others, making Next Media one of Uganda’s most recognisable media organisations.
Under Kariisa’s leadership, the company has become known for its aggressive digital innovation, youth-focused programming, and modern approach to broadcasting under the slogan “Inform to Transform.”
His leadership style and rapid rise in the corporate world are now attracting admiration from many young Africans seeking inspiration in entrepreneurship and business leadership.
Among them is young entrepreneur and media enthusiast Nyanzi Martin Luther, who says Kariisa has become an example of how African CEOs can build institutions that create both economic and social impact.
“Kin Kariisa has shown that African entrepreneurs can build strong institutions that compete at a high level while still empowering communities and young people,” Nyanzi said. “That is the kind of leadership many young Africans admire today.”
According to Nyanzi, Kariisa’s influence goes beyond media success because of his commitment to innovation, talent development, and youth empowerment.
He pointed to initiatives such as Next Creata, which supports young creatives and content producers, as part of the reasons many young people now view Kariisa as a transformational leader within Africa’s growing digital economy.
“Many young entrepreneurs see hope in leaders like him because he invests in talent and believes in the power of young people,” Nyanzi added. “He understands the future belongs to innovation and creativity.”
Beyond media, Kariisa has also strengthened his profile in corporate governance and strategic leadership. He currently serves as Chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters and has previously served on the board of Ecobank Uganda. He recently joined the board of Standard Chartered Uganda.
A Harvard-trained strategist and Stanford Seed alumnus, Kariisa is increasingly being recognised among Africa’s emerging corporate leaders, shaping conversations around innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable business growth.
As Africa’s youthful population continues searching for role models in leadership and entrepreneurship, many believe figures like Kin Kariisa are helping redefine what success and transformational leadership look like on the continent.
