KAMPALA – Veteran journalist Grace Gidudu has been appointed Acting Director of Communication and Public Affairs at the Parliament of Uganda, following the arrest of the substantive director, Chris Ariko Obore, amid ongoing investigations by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG).

Gidudu, who previously served as Assistant Director for Media Relations at Parliament, will oversee the institution’s communication functions, including media engagement, public information and coordination of parliamentary communication activities. Parliament’s official contacts list her among senior officials in the Communication and Public Affairs Directorate.

In related administrative changes, Benson Masereka Oniz has been appointed Acting Director of Human Resource Management, replacing Daniel Adilo, who was also arrested alongside other senior Parliament officials in the corruption investigations.

The changes follow the arrest of Obore and Adilo by the Inspectorate of Government as part of investigations into alleged abuse of office, embezzlement and money laundering involving senior parliamentary officials. The officials have denied wrongdoing and are expected to defend themselves through the legal process.

Gidudu’s Communication Experience

Gidudu brings extensive experience in institutional communication and media relations, having worked closely with journalists covering Parliament and coordinated communication initiatives aimed at improving public access to parliamentary information.

As Assistant Director for Media Relations, she was responsible for supporting parliamentary media coverage, public information campaigns and strengthening engagement between Parliament and the media.

Her appointment places her at the centre of managing Parliament’s public communication at a time when the institution is facing heightened public attention due to the ongoing investigations involving senior officials.

The Parliament Communication and Public Affairs Directorate is responsible for managing the institution’s relationship with the media, disseminating information on parliamentary activities and promoting public understanding of legislative processes.

Changes at Human Resource Directorate

Oniz takes over the Human Resource Management Directorate following the arrest of Adilo, who was among officials charged in connection with alleged financial offences.

The appointments are expected to ensure continuity in Parliament’s administrative operations as investigations continue.

The Inspectorate of Government has said the investigations are part of efforts to promote accountability and address alleged misuse of public resources within public institutions.

Parliament has not indicated whether the appointments are temporary pending the outcome of the investigations or whether further administrative changes will be made.
