Soroti – Daniel Eigu, the Chairman of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Soroti City and flag bearer for Soroti County, has resigned from the opposition party and pledged his support to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

In a statement shared on social media, Eigu said, “I have stepped down and quit the FDC. I have committed to actively support the National Resistance Movement and its candidates as we work together for stability and prosperity for our people.”

The move marks a significant defection in the lead-up to the January 2026 general elections, reflecting a trend of opposition leaders and candidates joining the ruling party in various regions.

Eigu’s resignation comes amid heightened political activity in Soroti and the broader Teso sub-region, where NRM is consolidating support ahead of the polls. Political analysts say such defections may boost NRM’s organisational strength locally, while raising concerns about the cohesion and morale of opposition parties.

The FDC has not immediately commented on Eigu’s resignation or its potential impact on the party’s electoral strategy in Soroti County.
