The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has appointed Eng. Joselynne Rwakakooko as its acting Managing Director, replacing Paul Mwesigwa.
Rwakakooko, an engineer by profession, has been serving as the company’s Chief Commercial and Operations Officer, a role in which she has overseen key aspects of electricity distribution, customer service, and revenue management.
Her appointment comes at a critical time for the state-owned utility, which plays a central role in Uganda’s electricity distribution network, particularly as the country continues to push for improved access, efficiency, and sector reforms.
Industry observers say her elevation reflects continuity within the organisation, given her deep institutional knowledge and experience in commercial operations.
UEDCL has been at the centre of Uganda’s energy transition discussions, especially around strengthening power distribution infrastructure, reducing losses, and improving service delivery to consumers across the country.
While the company has not yet publicly detailed the circumstances surrounding the leadership change, the transition is expected to be closely watched by stakeholders in the energy sector, including government, regulators, and private investors.
Rwakakooko is expected to steer the utility in the interim as broader strategic decisions regarding leadership and sector reforms unfold.
