Police in Kampala have arrested a driver following a fatal road crash that killed a motorcyclist and injured three pupils in Nakawa Division.
The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on September 18, 2026, near Muggies Hotel along Mutungo Biina Road.
Police identified the driver as Mulema Dennis, 33, a resident of Mutungo Biina. He was driving a white Toyota Hilux Double Cabin, registration number UA 945EW.
The motorcycle involved was registration number UMA 530LD, ridden by Muhindo Reagan, 22, a resident of Kasokoso, Wakiso District.
Police said Muhindo died at the scene of the accident.
Three pupils from Kiswa Primary School were also injured in the crash. The pupils, aged seven, 13 and 13, were reportedly travelling to school in Bugolobi, Nakawa Division, when the accident occurred.
According to preliminary police findings, the Hilux was travelling from Biina towards Mutungo when it allegedly collided with the motorcycle carrying the pupils.
The three pupils sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical treatment.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that careless driving by the driver of the Hilux may have contributed to the accident.
Mulema was arrested by police at Jinja Road and remains in custody pending further investigations and court proceedings.
Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Area Racheal Kawala said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
Police have urged motorists, motorcycle riders and other road users to exercise caution, observe traffic rules and follow road-safety guidelines to prevent road crashes.
The allegation of careless driving remains subject to investigation, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
