Veteran Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone has dismissed comparisons with fellow singer King Saha, saying he will not adopt the same promotional approach for his upcoming Chameleone Unlimited concert.
Speaking at a public gathering, Chameleone questioned why he should be expected to promote his concert in the same way as other musicians, making a remark in Luganda: “Nga wemwakola kwabo abadongo?” — roughly questioning whether the same promotional treatment given to other artists should apply to him.
The comments, which began circulating widely on Friday, come as the singer prepares for his long-awaited concert.
Chameleone’s remarks have renewed attention on his relationship with King Saha, particularly following an earlier controversy over the use of Lugogo Cricket Oval for concerts scheduled around December 4.
Earlier this year, Chameleone voluntarily relinquished a booking he had secured at the venue, citing the wider interests of the entertainment industry. The move had fuelled speculation about a possible clash with Saha over the date.
King Saha later clarified that he had no plans to stage a concert on the same date, attributing the controversy to miscommunication.
Chameleone, whose real name is Joseph Mayanja, is one of Uganda’s established musicians and was among the artists who mentored Saha, born Mansur Ssemanda, during his early career under the Leone Island camp.
The relationship between the two singers has had periods of public tension and reconciliation, with their respective positions in the music industry occasionally drawing comparisons from fans.
While Saha has relied on public appearances and other publicity activities to promote his shows, Chameleone has pursued a different strategy for Chameleone Unlimited. His campaign has included a partnership with Trace TV, intended to extend the concert’s visibility beyond Uganda.
The latest comments have once again drawn attention to the different approaches the two musicians are taking as they promote their respective performances and maintain their presence in Uganda’s entertainment industry.
Both singers continue to build momentum for their remaining 2026 performances.
