Uganda’s acclaimed documentary Back to the Source – The Nile is set to make its long-awaited homecoming premiere in Kampala on April 25, 2026, following an internationally successful debut in China.

The film, directed by Derrick Ssenyonyi and executive-produced by Ambassador Juju Nsababera, first premiered in Guangzhou in December 2025, where it reportedly attracted more than 73 million viewers across broadcast and digital platforms. Its Uganda screening was initially planned for February 2026 but was postponed due to China’s New Year festivities.

The documentary follows Nsababera’s immersive journey along the River Nile, capturing Uganda’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage. From rafting through rapid waters to trekking through rugged terrain and observing mountain gorillas, the film highlights both the natural beauty and ecological importance of the Nile Basin.

Nsababera described the upcoming Kampala premiere as a “homecoming,” emphasising the film’s intention to celebrate Ugandan identity and storytelling on a global stage.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also confirmed the national screening, underscoring the project’s cultural and diplomatic significance.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Uganda noted that the premiere marks a milestone for Uganda’s creative industry and international cultural exchange.

Media personality Alan Kasujja praised the project on social media, describing Nsababera as “an ambassador who has understood her assignment,” reflecting growing public anticipation for the film’s local debut.

As excitement builds ahead of April 25, the documentary is being viewed as both a cinematic achievement and a celebration of Uganda’s natural heritage, reinforcing the country’s place in global storytelling.
