Addis Ababa — The African Union Commission has strongly condemned the recent drone strike in Goma, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which reportedly killed civilians, including a humanitarian worker, and caused damage to residential areas.

The Chairperson of the Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expressed deep concern over the attack, emphasising that any action endangering civilian lives or humanitarian personnel violates international humanitarian law.

The AU Commission urged all parties in eastern DRC to exercise maximum restraint, avoid acts that could escalate tensions, and ensure the safety of civilians and humanitarian workers operating in the region.

Highlighting ongoing efforts to restore peace, the Commission stressed the importance of respecting mediation and ceasefire arrangements and called for an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The African Union reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Government of the DRC, regional partners, and the international community to achieve a durable political solution, reduce violence, and promote lasting stability in eastern DRC.
