KAMPALA, Uganda — The Inspectorate of Government has arrested Nwoya District Chief Administrative Officer, Mrs Nantume Janepher Egunyu, together with a farmer and a businessman, over allegations of abuse of office and theft of public funds.

According to a statement attributed to the Inspectorate, the suspects include Egunyu, Fred Kalisa, and Wanda Ronald.

Investigators allege that between 2023 and 2024, Ms Egunyu abused her office by bypassing established administrative procedures to authorise the operation of an illegal animal market in Gotokwara Village, Nwoya District.

The two co-accused, Kalisa and Wanda, are alleged to have stolen UGX 20,655,000 in district funds while managing the market’s operations.

The Inspectorate says the trio is expected to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court on April 28, 2026.

Authorities have not yet disclosed detailed responses from the suspects, but the case is expected to proceed under corruption and abuse of office provisions as investigations continue.
