Entebbe, April 17, 2026 — The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control has announced a major transition of its operations at Entebbe International Airport, moving critical departure systems to the newly constructed terminal extension.

The relocation, which began today, is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to modernise airport infrastructure and improve passenger processing speeds. However, officials warned that the transition may cause temporary service disruptions.

Operational Changes and Delays

To facilitate the safe transfer of digital systems, equipment, and personnel, operations at the old departures area have been temporarily scaled down. Travellers are advised of the following:

•       Potential Queues: Longer waiting times are expected during peak hours as staff adjust to the new facility.

•       Three-Hour Arrival Window: Immigration officials are strongly recommending that all departing passengers arrive at the airport at least three (3) hours before their scheduled flights to avoid delays.

•       Flight Guarantees: Despite the logistical shift, the Ministry assured the public that no passenger would miss their flight due to the transition, provided they met standard security and documentation requirements.

Modernising the Passenger Experience

The Public Relations Office stated that this move is a “key step” in improving the traveller experience at Uganda’s primary gateway. The new terminal extension is designed to handle higher passenger volumes with more modern technology compared to the previous setup.

“We are actively managing passenger flow to minimise any inconvenience during this necessary upgrade,” the notice read. “Your early arrival will help us maintain an orderly process as we move to the new modern facility.”
