Kampala — Kampala Metropolitan Police has arrested 47 suspects following a series of coordinated night operations targeting crime hotspots across the city.

According to a press statement issued by Deputy Public Relations Officer Luke Owoyesigyire, the intelligence-led operations were conducted on the night of March 30, 2026, in the areas of Butabika under Jinja Road Division, Kamwokya in Kira Road Policing Area, and Bweyogerere in Kira Division.

The operations were commanded by respective Division Police Commanders and supported by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces alongside local leaders. They targeted identified black spots believed to be harbouring individuals involved in drug abuse and the robbery of pedestrians.

“A total of 47 suspects were arrested during the coordinated operations. Several exhibits of narcotic substances were recovered,” Owoyesigyire said in the statement.

Police confirmed that all suspects are currently in custody at various stations and have been charged with offences including public nuisance and possession of narcotic substances, pending prosecution.

Owoyesigyire noted that the operations were successful and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to sustaining such crackdowns.

“Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to sustaining intelligence-led efforts to eliminate criminality and enhance public safety across the region,” he said.

Authorities say similar operations will continue in identified hotspots as part of ongoing efforts to curb urban crime.
