Kampala, Uganda — Police under the Uganda Police Force have arrested 28 suspects during coordinated security operations conducted across several areas in Kampala and Mukono District.

The operations were carried out under the jurisdictions of Kira Road Division, Kira Division, and Mukono District in locations including Kamwokya, Kyanja, Kisaasi, Kitifumba Shimoni, Kira Taxi Park, Mbalwa–Namugongo, and Wantoni in Mukono.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the security operations targeted criminal gangs suspected of waylaying and robbing members of the public, as well as individuals allegedly involved in narcotics abuse in identified crime black spots.

Police said 28 suspects were arrested during the crackdown. Among them were individuals suspected of involvement in a gang rape case reported in Mbalwa.

Authorities recovered several exhibits during the operations, including suspected narcotics, stolen mobile phones, sharp objects believed to have been used in robberies, and a computer allegedly used to crack mobile phone passwords.

The computer device is currently under forensic examination as investigators seek to determine its role in the suspected criminal network.

All arrested suspects are being held at various police stations while investigations continue and prosecution files are prepared.

Police have indicated that similar operations will continue in the targeted areas to combat crime, dismantle criminal gangs, and ensure public safety in Kampala’s metropolitan region.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police reassured residents of their commitment to maintaining law and order in collaboration with community members.
