Father arrested for fatally beating daughter’s teenage boyfriend

WAKISO — Police have apprehended a 41-year-old man who had been on the run after allegedly beating his teenage daughter’s boyfriend to death on Valentine’s Day.

The suspect, Herbert Musasizi, was tracked down by security operatives in Gulu District on February 20, ending a six-day manhunt. He is accused of the murder of 18-year-old Martin Bukenya, a student at Hillside Secondary School Matugga.

The Valentine’s Day Tragedy

The fatal confrontation occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. on February 14, 2026, in Mabanda Cell, Nansana Municipality.

According to police findings:

The Visit: Bukenya had reportedly gone to Musasizi’s home to deliver a Valentine’s gift to the suspect’s 14-year-old daughter.

The Altercation: Musasizi allegedly discovered the teenager inside the residence, triggering a violent physical assault.

Prior Warnings: Witnesses noted that the suspect had previously warned Bukenya to stay away from the home.

Fatal Outcome: Bukenya sustained severe injuries during the beating and later succumbed to them.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

After the incident, Musasizi fled the scene, prompting a nationwide search. He was eventually located in Northern Uganda and has since been transferred back to Wakiso to face the law.

Current Status: The suspect is in custody and is expected to be charged with murder following the completion of the investigation. Under Ugandan law, a murder conviction carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Community and Official Response

The killing has sparked a heated debate in Wakiso regarding domestic violence and the protection of minors. Local leaders have condemned the use of “jungle justice,” urging parents to resolve disputes through lawful channels rather than resorting to lethal force.

The case file is currently being prepared for submission to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
