Amuriat tells Bobi Wine to end hide and seek

Kampala, Uganda — The President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, has publicly appealed to National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, to end what he described as “hide and seek” and make himself visible to his supporters as the opposition grapples with post-election uncertainty.

Amuriat made the remarks during an NTV Uganda interview, highlighting that it has been one month since the January 15, 2026, general elections — and since Kyagulanyi left his home in Magere, Wakiso District, amid heightened security tensions and fears for his safety.

“Stop the hide and seek, come out and provide leadership to your people,” Amuriat said, calling on Kyagulanyi to step forward at a critical time for the opposition movement. He argued that visible leadership is essential to guide supporters through ongoing political challenges following the contested election.

Amuriat warned that the absence of a central figure may leave opposition followers “leaderless and desperate,” potentially reducing their confidence and momentum in the months ahead. His comments come amid broader debate over how Uganda’s opposition should organise and respond in the aftermath of the vote, which Kyagulanyi has rejected, citing alleged irregularities.

The security situation around Kyagulanyi’s residence has remained tense. In recent days, police blocked a delegation of NUP lawmakers and lawyers from accessing his home, and one human rights lawyer was reportedly arrested during the attempt to check on the well-being of Kyagulanyi’s family.

Since January, Kyagulanyi has continued to communicate intermittently on social media, but has stayed away from broad public appearances, prompting criticism from some political peers who say a more visible role is required to sustain opposition morale and cohesion.
