MUKONO — Uganda Christian University (UCU) is mourning the death of Muhoozi Edgar, a first-year student pursuing Civil and Environmental Engineering, the UCU Guild Government has confirmed.

In a statement issued on February 13, the UCU 28th Guild Government announced the passing of the student, describing the news as heartbreaking.

“It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Muhoozi Edgar, a Year One student of Civil and Environmental Engineering,” the statement read.

The guild leadership extended condolences to the family, friends, and the university community, adding: “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Reports shared online indicate that the 19-year-old student reportedly drowned and was rushed to C-Care Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Muhoozi was also widely known in school sports circles as a football captain, having captained Akachai FC in the Ntare Lions League, where he earned praise as a disciplined and inspiring leader.

The Ntare Lions League also confirmed his death in a tribute message, describing him as a “bright talent” and expressing solidarity with his family and teammates.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edgar Muhoozi… Rest well, Edgar. You will be missed,” the statement read.

The death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fellow students, football teams, and former schoolmates, many remembering him for his strong character, leadership, and cheerful spirit.

His passing adds to a sombre mood at UCU following another tragedy reported earlier in the week involving the death of Dean Pamela Tumwebaze.

UCU management is yet to issue a detailed statement regarding the circumstances surrounding Muhoozi’s death.
