NUP’s Florence Namayanja has retained the Masaka City mayoral seat, while the NRM’s Denis Nzeirwe Ndyomugyenyi, Lawrence Alionzi and Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi secured victories in Kabale District, Arua City and Mbarara City, respectively, as results from the ongoing 2026 General Elections continued to trickle in.
In Masaka City, Namayanja was declared the winner by the returning officer after defeating four male contenders to secure a second term. Her victory cements her position as one of the few female city mayors in the country and a key figure within the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).
In southwestern Uganda, NRM’s Denis Nzeirwe Ndyomugyenyi won the Kabale District LCV chairperson race after garnering about 44,511 votes, representing roughly 60 percent of the total votes cast. He was declared the winner at around 1:10 am at the district tally centre, defeating three other candidates. Following his victory, Ndyomugyenyi pledged to prioritise service delivery and effective governance.
Meanwhile, in West Nile, Lawrence Alionzi of the NRM was elected Arua City Mayor. His win follows his earlier victory in the party primaries and comes amid reports of generally low voter turnout at several polling stations during voting.
In Mbarara City, NRM’s Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi was declared the winner after polling 21,117 votes, equivalent to 63.4 percent of the total votes cast. The city returning officer, Violet Atuhurra, announced the results. Kakyebezi, who faced four challengers, will now serve a third term as city mayor.
The results underscore the NRM’s continued dominance in several urban centres, even as opposition candidates like Namayanja consolidate their foothold in key cities.
