Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Rose Epel Alupo has been declared unopposed for the Katakwi District Woman Member of Parliament seat following the withdrawal of her only challenger, Angela Anuken.

Anuken formally withdrew her candidature early on December 24, 2025, clearing the way for Alupo’s return to Parliament without a contested vote in the January 2026 general elections.

Angela Anuken had opted to run as an Independent candidate after losing to Alupo in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries held in July 2025. In those primaries, Alupo secured a decisive victory, polling 88.8 percent of the votes. She was subsequently nominated as the NRM flag bearer in October 2025.

Following Anuken’s withdrawal, the Electoral Commission declared Alupo unopposed, effectively confirming her re-election to the 12th Parliament for the 2026–2031 term.

Alupo, who has represented Katakwi District since 2021, continues to serve as Uganda’s Vice President alongside her parliamentary role. The development has been widely reported across local media and welcomed by NRM supporters, who view her unopposed return as an endorsement of her leadership and performance both nationally and at the constituency level.

The declaration comes as Uganda gears up for the 2026 general elections, with nominations and campaign activities ongoing across the country under the banner of Uganda Decides 2026.
