Kiboga — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Ugandans to make informed and deliberate choices during elections, cautioning that political decisions shape a nation’s destiny and can determine whether a country enjoys stability or sinks into chaos.
The President made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing a mammoth campaign rally at Ssaza Grounds in Kiboga District, where he warned voters against trivialising politics.
“Elections are not football,” President Museveni said, stressing that leadership contests are serious national matters that require careful thought. He reminded supporters that an informed voter understands candidates, policies, voting procedures, and how government works.
Drawing lessons from Uganda’s history, President Museveni cited the 1962 elections, noting that poor political decisions at the time contributed to loss of life and years of instability. He urged the people of Kiboga to vote wisely in the forthcoming elections to safeguard peace and national progress.
The President appealed for support for himself and other National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearers, saying this would protect the party’s contributions to Uganda over the last four decades.
He highlighted four of the NRM’s seven key achievements—peace, development, wealth creation, and job creation—noting that these pillars have transformed areas like Kiboga from insecurity to stability and growth.
According to President Museveni, peace remains the foundation of all progress. He pointed out that Kiboga has enjoyed uninterrupted stability for more than 40 years, allowing generations to grow up without experiencing war. He attributed this to the NRM’s rejection of sectarian politics based on religion, tribe, gender, or age, as well as government programmes such as immunisation and inclusive leadership.
On development, the President outlined government investments in economic infrastructure, including roads, electricity, telecommunications, and railways. He cited the Hoima–Kiboga road as a key project and pledged further upgrades to roads linking Kiboga to neighbouring districts. He added that the anticipated start of oil production next year will provide resources to accelerate infrastructure projects that have previously been delayed due to limited funding.
Turning to wealth creation, President Museveni emphasised that household income is the backbone of national prosperity. He urged families to engage in income-generating activities, particularly agriculture and enterprise, and reiterated the NRM’s four-acre model for diversified production.
On job creation, he said employment opportunities come from individual and private-sector initiatives such as commercial agriculture, factories, services, and ICT. He also noted that government skilling centres are equipping young people with practical skills, including welding, baking, and other trades.
Meanwhile, Kiboga District NRM Chairperson, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, thanked the President for restoring peace and strengthening security through the establishment of police stations in previously crime-prone areas.
She also commended the rehabilitation of the Hoima–Kampala Road and praised wealth creation programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, noting that many households in Kiboga have already benefited.
