Ugandan singer-songwriter Priscilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi, has declared her ambition to be “the best thing that has ever happened to East Africa,” signalling a bold step forward in her already stellar career.
“I am going to be the best thing that has ever happened to East Africa,” she said on X (formerly Twitter).
The 29-year-old Afrobeat sensation, who shot to fame with hits like Quinamino, Majje (featuring Fik Fameica), and Slow Dancing, released her highly anticipated project, “Lost Files”, on October 17, 2025. The album showcases Azawi’s signature blend of Luganda and English Afrobeat melodies.
Azawi, who began her artistic journey as a dancer in school troupes before venturing into songwriting, has steadily built a name for herself in Uganda and beyond.
She became the first female Ugandan artist to appear on Times Square billboards in New York City and Los Angeles, joining the ranks of Eddy Kenzo and Bobi Wine.
Signed to Swangz Avenue since 2019, Azawi has released multiple albums, including Lo Fit (2020), African Music (2021), and Sankofa, along with over 20 singles.
Her accolades include Female Artist of the Year at the Janzi Awards 2021, Buzz Teeniez Artist of the Year, and multiple honours at the Zzina Awards 2021/22, cementing her status as one of Uganda’s top music talents.
Beyond music, Azawi has also been named a Guinness brand ambassador, a role she shares with Nigerian star Fireboy DML, and recently headlined her first sold-out concert at Lugogo, Kampala.
